What is Gridfinity?

An open-source modular storage system created by Zack Freedman in 2022. Everything is based on a 42mm grid—any bin from any designer works with any baseplate.

Quickstart Guide

1. Get a Baseplate

The baseplate sits in your drawer and provides the grid. Use Plan Your Base to figure out what size you need.

Baseplate I Used — Lightweight, prints faster, uses less filament.

2. Get Some Bins

Bins I Used — Hex pattern, all sizes, light version.

3. Plan Your Layout

Use Plan Your Base for dimensions, then Layout Your Bins to arrange them before printing.

Don't make bins too tall. Height units are 7mm each. For most items, 2-3 units (14-21mm) is plenty.

Common Bin Sizes

  • 1×1 — Screws, SD cards, small components
  • 1×2 to 1×4 — Pens, tools, cables
  • 2×2 to 2×4 — Tape, parts bags, larger tools
  • 3×3+ — Big items, project boxes
